How we score a crypto prop firm

Five weighted criteria, applied identically to every firm. The weights are published so you can disagree with them.

Payout reliability30% Did the money arrive, in full, inside the window the firm advertises? Measured on withdrawals we requested ourselves.
Rule fairness22% Drawdown basis, consistency rules, news and weekend restrictions — and whether the terms of service can be changed retroactively.
Real cost20% Challenge fee, resets, spreads, funding rates and commissions — the total cost of reaching a first payout, not the sticker price.
Platform & execution16% Whether orders route to a real exchange book, slippage on our test fills, and uptime during high-volatility sessions.
Transparency & support12% Named ownership, a registered entity, published rules, and a support reply within 48 hours to a real dispute.

What we actually do

We buy every challenge at full price with our own money. No firm gets a free account, a preview of its score, or the chance to change one. When a firm sends us a discount code, we publish the code and still pay for the account we test on.

Once funded, we trade the account to a genuine profit target and request a withdrawal. That date goes into the payout log with a screenshot. If the money lands late, the score drops. If it does not land at all, the firm is delisted the same week and we say why.

What we do not do

We do not rank on commission. We do not run a "top firm of the month" slot that a firm can pay for, and we do not accept edits to our reviews. Firms are told their score at the same time as you — when the page publishes.

Scores are re-checked every quarter. Rules in this industry change without notice, so a review with a stale date on it is worth nothing. Each firm page carries the date of its last full re-test at the top. Read the full methodology →

Frequently asked questions

What is the best crypto prop firm right now?

In our September 2026 testing round, Breakout scores highest at 9.4/10. It paid all six of our withdrawal requests in under 24 hours, routes orders to a real perpetuals book, and publishes its drawdown rules in plain language.

"Best" depends on how you trade, though. If you need the largest allocation, HyroTrader funds up to $400,000. If you are taking your first challenge, Crypto Fund Trader's no-time-limit format is more forgiving. Compare all 14 firms in the table above.

Are crypto prop firms legitimate, or a scam?

Both exist. A legitimate firm has a registered entity, named directors, published rules that do not change retroactively, and a payout history you can verify with other traders. A scam firm has none of those and tends to find a rule violation the moment you request a large withdrawal.

We delisted two firms this quarter for exactly that pattern. The safest signal is not a review score — it is evidence of paid withdrawals from traders who are not affiliates.

How much does a crypto prop firm challenge cost?

Expect $199–$359 for a $100,000 account at list price, and $59–$129 for a $10,000 account. Discount codes of 10–30% are common enough that paying full price is usually unnecessary.

Budget for the reset too. Most traders fail their first attempt, so the realistic cost of reaching a funded account is closer to two challenge fees than one.

Which crypto prop firm pays out the fastest?

Breakout was fastest in our log, with a median of 19 hours from request to received. HyroTrader averaged 1–3 days. Anything advertised as "instant" should be read as "same business day, if compliance clears it".

Can I trade a crypto prop firm account from the United States?

Some firms accept US-based traders and some do not, and the list changes. Check the firm's terms before you buy a challenge — a challenge bought from a restricted jurisdiction is usually non-refundable and non-payable. We flag current US eligibility at the top of every firm review.

Do you get paid if I sign up through your links?

Yes, on some firms — and it makes no difference to the ranking. Our scores come from a fixed, published formula applied before any commercial conversation. Firms that pay us nothing appear above firms that do, which is the whole point. Full disclosure here.

Affiliate disclosure & risk warning

Best Crypto Prop Firm is an independent review site. Some links to prop firms are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy a challenge after clicking one. This never costs you more, and it never changes a score or a position in our table — our ranking formula is fixed and published before any commercial relationship is discussed.

We do not accept payment for reviews, placements, or removal of criticism. Firms with no affiliate programme are ranked and reviewed on identical terms.

Risk warning

Trading leveraged crypto derivatives carries a high risk of loss. Prop firm challenge fees are generally non-refundable and most participants do not reach a payout. Nothing on this site is financial advice. We are not a licensed financial adviser, broker or prop firm. Trade only with money you can afford to lose.
